Blue ribbon v blue ribband

There's a heated debate in the office as to whether the Olympic 100 metres is a blue ribbon, blue riband or blue ribband event...apparently the original Blue Ribband was the transatlantic race for ships and is therefore the original, with ribbon being added later, but riband is being used by the bbc. Check the wikipedia for more...any linguistic buffs with opinions, have better ideas?

Betting on cycling

If you are suffering withdrawal symptoms with the ending of the soccer for a few weeks, the Tour de France has some interesting betting for the next few weeks. It is one of the widest open for years and maybe even dope free. So there are really good odds to be had. Check the form and also the different bet types, you can even bet on the time of the winner in seconds!!!

Odds go up...odds come down

Sometimes the odds have to come down on big events, like for example the British Grand Prix. When the cars are out in session or on time laps. The earlier you get your bets on the better the odds obviously, but when the cars are on the track betting is suspended and the odds revised. The odds of course change according to where the money is going.

Fancy a bet on the Brits?

Wimbledon day four. Time for a bit of homespun patriotism. If the Brits can cause some upsets today you could win big money. British number one Anne Keothavong takes on defending champion Venus Williams and at odds of 11/1 it would be a big pay out if she pulls off the shock of the round. There is an interesting double to have Andy Murray and Chris Eaton both to win through - £10 pays £42.

Euro 2008 Poker Championships

Forget the football - its poker time. We have just launched the Euro 2008 Poker Championship - your chance to represent your country in three Free Rolls and then at the final with a chance to win an amazing once in a lifetime adventure holiday in New Zealand

Blog names - aliens and aliases

Domaine names on a pan European site are interesting. We have been buying some blog names but should we use the official eu, or the country of origin, or the .com? Can we get any of them?

You cannot buy a decent poker name for love nor money (if you have got one let us know), but I bagged FranceLigue1.com easy enough. And www.premiershipsoccer.co.uk.

The blogs launch in the new season. Watch out for them. You can see a prototype at www.baselinetennis.com or www.sportspicturepost.blogspot.com. Double click on the pix and they blow up to amazing full screen size. The one here is a pompier from the Magny Course French Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton's Maclaren flashing by..as it wimped out.

Tip of the week

Wimbledon is here and there is quite a buzz going on, mainly around the new starlet Ana Ivanovic after her victory in charming Paris. In fact the Serbs look like a possible fairytale to win at Wimbledon with Ana in the women's (surely it is time to start calling them girls?) and Novak Djokovic in the men’s - £10 on a double would pay £248

Jobs - German speakers wanted

If anyone speaks fluent German and English and fancies working in Camden Town, we have vacancies for our expanding German section as a customer relations manager…

Sports story of the week

Has to be the Queen instructing women entering the Royal enclosure at Ascot that they have to wear knickers (unseen)…and that beautiful description that they should also wear hats or appropriate “fascinators”...like this nice girl is wearing

Odds..and sods

If the odds are not on the site, it may well be that they are being updated. On Friday Wimbledon odds were down following the draw. And the odds for the French Grand Prix and the British Moto GP were all pulled during practice for revisions.

Euro 2008 prize draw - 90 points to win

The Euro 2008 Semi finals means 20 points in the prize draw to win a BMW Z4. Current leader Damtroto has only got 43 and with a potential 90 more points up for grabs anyone in the top 50 or even beyond could sneak in. get your bets on. Turkey have the luck - they are my tip!

Euro 2008 - Great fan pictures

Of all the many great fan pictures from Euro 2008, this is my favourtie for my screensaver...it is a Holland fan after beating France

Euro 2008 - A first for radio

Those of you into live betting may have noticed something strange about the Euro 2008 broadcasting. The smart move is to have the pictures on the TV but listen to the commentary on the Radio 5 Live. The radio commentary is fractionally ahead of the pictures as you could tell in the penalty shoot out when Graham Taylor was affirming a great save when the ball had barely been kicked. The Internet equivalent of course is three or four seconds behind the TV as well.

Martina, on the rocks

Former Wimbledon star Martina Navratilova told the BBC that if she wanted to throw a match, then no one would know. This of course is bunkum. For all the concerns surrounding tennis match fixing, it is in fact the easiest of scams to spot and identify the perpetrators. At BetClick the bookies would see the money coming in, the fraud department would know who is betting and in extreme cases we would have the rights to void the bets anyway. Trying to fiddle the system that way round is just daft.
